Information about Medicare Rebates
Seeing a psychologist is now more affordable for those eligible as the Government has recently introduced new Medicare items for psychological treatment. This means that you may be able to receive a substantial rebate when you see a Mind Advantage registered Psychologist.
In order to claim part of the cost of your consultations with a Mind Advantage Psychologist you need to receive an assessment and referral from your GP. Once your GP has assessed your requirements they will make a referral to the Mind Advantage Psychologist of your choice (so please take their details with you) for six sessions and register you with Medicare. After your initial six sessions with your Psychologist, you will be reviewed by your GP who may then recommend you have a further six sessions if deemed necessary.
Medicare will reimburse you up to $75 for each of these sessions.
Private Health Cover
If you have Private Health Cover you may also be able to claim part of the cost of your sessions with a Mind Advantage Psychologist under your “extras” cover. You will need to clarify this with your Private Health Cover provider and also check how much money per session they will rebate you. You cannot claim under both Medicare and your Private Health Cover so you may need to compare the refunds available to you and choose which one is best for you.
